A personal CRM for Cursor and ChatGPT users: connect your contacts to your AI agent

Cursor and ChatGPT are easy places to ask for help with a person. The hard part is giving them the same notes. A detail saved in one chat is not automatically available in the other, and it is not sitting in your address book for you to check later.

ppl is a hosted personal CRM for those contacts, notes, birthdays, and follow-ups. You connect it once to each assistant. Both then use the account you approved. ppl is hosted at withppl.com today. A self-hosted version is coming soon.

The server address both clients use

The agent setup page starts with one MCP URL:

https://withppl.com/mcp

Clients that support remote MCP and OAuth connect through your browser. You approve the permissions there. New users can create an account during connection and verify their email. You do not create an API key by hand for this path.

Add ppl in Cursor

Open your personal Cursor MCP configuration at ~/.cursor/mcp.json. That file applies across projects. Use .cursor/mcp.json only when you want the server in one project. Merge this entry into the existing mcpServers object so you keep the other servers you already use:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "ppl": {
      "url": "https://withppl.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Save the file, then open Cursor's MCP controls and connect ppl when Cursor prompts you. Follow the browser sign-in. Enter your email, and your password if you already have an account. If the account is new, verify the email ppl sends before you approve. Read the permissions on the consent screen and choose Authorize.

Leave bearer tokens out of this file. OAuth stores the credential through Cursor. A project file named ppl can override the personal one, so check which file you edited if the server is missing. Cursor's current controls are in Cursor's MCP documentation, and the ppl Cursor guide covers the same connection.

Add ppl in ChatGPT

Open ChatGPT's Plugins area, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Name it ppl. Use https://withppl.com/mcp as the server URL. Select OAuth, then follow the sign-in flow. The browser step is the same one Cursor uses: sign in or create an account, verify your email, review the permissions, and authorize.

Install the plugin and select it in your chat. Workspace permissions may control whether custom servers are available. OpenAI's sample in the Plugins quickstart uses no authentication. ppl requires OAuth, so leave that sample setting off for this connection.

Some accounts show Apps and developer mode instead of Plugins. On that screen, enable developer mode if your plan and workspace allow it, create a custom app with the same server URL and OAuth, finish the tool scan, and authorize. Select the app in a new chat. OpenAI's developer-mode guidance covers the plan and administrator limits. The ppl ChatGPT guide matches those two screens. This is a custom server connection. These steps do not mean ppl is an OpenAI-reviewed directory app.

Confirm both assistants see the same account

Ask each one for a read before you ask either one to change a record:

Use ppl to retrieve my relationship briefing. Show the information you
received and tell me if access was denied. Do not change any records.

The names should belong to the account you approved. Open My agents and look for a recorded request from each connection. An empty briefing means there is little on file yet. Add a contact, or import the people you already keep, and try the read again.

Then give both assistants a task you can check:

I am meeting Alex tomorrow. Find the right Alex in ppl, ask me if there
are multiple matches, and summarize our recent notes and open follow-ups.
Keep the summary in this chat.

In Cursor, keep that summary in the conversation. A contact's personal details belong in ppl, not in a source file in the repository. If Cursor offers to write the meeting into the project, ask for the ppl note instead and review it before it is saved.

Use one record from either chat

After the meeting, ask the assistant you are in to show the note it would save. Check the name and the date, then approve the save. The next time you open the other assistant, ask it what you last discussed with Alex. The answer should come from the note you just confirmed.

Remove the Cursor entry or the ChatGPT integration when you stop using it. Also revoke that connection in My agents so the account access ends with the connector.

If a client cannot use OAuth, sign in and create a token in the MCP setup wizard, then point the client at https://withppl.com/mcp with an Authorization: Bearer header. Keep that token out of chat and out of any file you commit.
