Use ppl with ChatGPT

Connect the ppl MCP server through ChatGPT’s available custom integration settings, with guidance for Plugins and Apps interfaces.

ppl gives ChatGPT a place to look up the contact notes, birthdays, and follow-ups you have saved. The setup route depends on which custom integration controls your ChatGPT account provides. Use the route visible in your account, then verify a read before relying on it.

Connect through Plugins

Open ChatGPT’s Plugins area, choose the plus button and Add custom MCP server. Name the connection ppl and enter https://withppl.com/mcp. Select OAuth for authentication, follow the browser sign-in, and review the permissions ppl requests. Create the plugin, install it from your personal plugins, then start a Work chat and select or mention it.

Those interface steps follow OpenAI’s Plugins quickstart. Its sample server requires no authentication; ppl requires OAuth. Do not copy the sample’s “No authentication” setting for your contact account.

If your account uses Apps instead

Some accounts still expose custom integrations through Apps and developer mode. On that interface, enable developer mode if your plan and workspace permissions allow it, create a custom app with the same ppl server URL and OAuth, and complete the tool scan and authorization. Select the app in a new chat.

OpenAI’s developer-mode guidance describes administrator controls and plan limits for that interface. Full write actions are limited to supported plans and permissions. If you cannot see the required controls, check your account’s official guidance or ask your workspace administrator; a ppl subscription cannot unlock ChatGPT’s integration controls.

Verify what the connection can do

Use ppl to retrieve my relationship briefing. Show the information you
received and tell me if access was denied. Do not change any records.

Check that the result belongs to your account. If the connection has read access but a write request fails, check the app’s action controls and approved permissions before retrying. Do not assume that seeing a contact grants permission to send a message.

A useful meeting request

I am meeting Alex tomorrow. Find the right Alex in ppl, ask me if there
are multiple matches, and summarize our recent notes and open follow-ups.
Keep the summary in this chat. Do not message Alex.

After the meeting, ask ChatGPT to show the note it would save. Review dates and names before approving. This keeps useful history in ppl without turning guesses into facts. For a repeatable habit, see the daily relationship routine.

If a connection stops working, check whether it needs reauthorization. Remove the integration when you stop using it and revoke its token in ppl’s Settings > API. This is a custom server connection; the instructions do not claim that ppl is an OpenAI-reviewed directory app.
