Bring Google Contacts into ppl

Choose Google authorization or a CSV export, review your contacts, and understand duplicate checks before importing into ppl.

Updated October 10, 2026 · ppl team

You can bring Google Contacts into ppl by connecting your Google account or by exporting a file. Choose the connection if you want to review the contacts Google supplies directly. Choose a file if you prefer to prepare a smaller group before uploading anything.

Connect and review

Sign in to ppl and open Settings → Import contacts. Choose the Google Contacts option, sign in to the intended Google account and review the permissions before approving. Back in ppl, review the total and the first ten contacts shown in the preview. Confirming imports the retrieved list; if you want only a selected group, use a prepared CSV instead. Connecting the account is not the same as confirming the import.

This route reads Google Contacts for the import. It does not promise to keep two address books synchronized afterward. Gmail and Calendar access are separate considerations; do not approve extra access simply because you want a contact list.

Or prepare a file

Google documents contact export from its desktop Contacts interface. Select the contacts you want, use the export action and download a CSV or vCard. For ppl’s column-mapping workflow, choose CSV. Follow Google’s export instructions.

Upload a small CSV in ppl’s import screen. Map the appropriate name, email and phone columns; Google-specific column labels may need your attention. The available mappings are first name, last name, email, phone, birthday, organization and notes. Save birthdays as YYYY-MM-DD when the full date is known. Check the preview rather than assuming every Google field has a destination.

Know what will change

The CSV and Google importers skip a contact when its email matches an existing contact in your account. They do not use that row to refresh the existing record. Contacts without an email need extra review because a name alone does not guarantee a duplicate check will catch them.

Organization, notes and the import label are combined in a description limited to 255 characters. Keep the source export for long notes, multiple addresses and any fields that the importer does not carry over.

Check the first batch

Start with five or ten familiar people. Inspect names with accents, birthday dates, email addresses and phone numbers. Review imported, skipped and error results. Stay within the hosted beta’s 1,000-contact allowance when planning the full move. See current limits.

Keep the Google records until you have checked the result. Once the basics are right, add the conversation notes and follow-ups that make the new record useful.

Before uploading, use the free contact CSV checker to review names, repeated email addresses and dates. The file stays in your browser.
