Use ppl with Claude Code

Set up a personal, user-scoped ppl MCP connection in Claude Code, with browser authorization and a first read-only check.

Updated October 10, 2026 · ppl team

Claude Code can help with the people around your work as well as the work itself. Before a customer call or a catch-up with a former colleague, it can retrieve your ppl notes without asking you to paste them into a repository.

Keep the connection personal

Use a user-scoped connection for your personal CRM. It makes the configuration available across your projects without putting it in the project’s shared MCP file. Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http ppl --scope user https://withppl.com/mcp

Start Claude Code, run /mcp, select ppl, and follow the authentication instructions. The browser takes you to ppl to sign in and approve access. You do not need a locally installed ppl server for this hosted connection. The command and user scope follow Claude Code’s MCP documentation.

Check the connection before making changes

Use ppl to retrieve my briefing. Summarize what needs attention.
Do not update contacts, create tasks, or send messages.

A successful read should return information from the account you approved. Check the account before continuing if the contacts are unfamiliar. If there is nothing in the briefing, look up one contact you know exists instead. Do not treat an empty result as permission to create a duplicate.

Give it a useful job

When you are about to meet someone, ask Claude Code to find that person in ppl and read their recent notes. Keep the summary in your conversation unless you explicitly want it saved elsewhere. A personal catch-up should not produce a file containing private contact details inside a work repository.

Find Taylor in ppl and ask me to choose if there is more than one match.
Give me a short summary for our call: last conversation, open tasks,
and anything I told you to remember. Do not write it into project files.

Afterward, ask it to show the note it proposes to save. A clear sentence about the actual conversation is more useful than a guessed assessment of the relationship.

When authentication gets stuck

Run /mcp again and check the ppl entry. A project-specific server named ppl can take precedence over a user configuration, so inspect duplicate entries if the URL looks wrong. If browser authorization was denied or the token was revoked, complete a new authorization rather than repeatedly retrying a failed tool call.

For a scheduled briefing outside an interactive coding session, use the Python REST example. Adding a server to Claude Code does not, by itself, schedule a daily task. Revoke a connection you no longer use in ppl’s Settings > API.
